Liu is part of Guerlain’s Legendary fragrance collection. A collection made of emblematic fragrances, composed for more than a centu ry by 5 generations of Perfumers. These mythical pioneer perfumes compose a unique olfactive library, that the Maison Guerlain endeavors to preserve. An ardent aficionado of opera, Jacques Guerlain couldn’t help but fall under the spell of Puccini’s Turandot. It is difficult to resist the charm of Liu, a woman as beautiful as she is heroic, for whom he composes this olfactory poem in which aldehydes play one of their most amazing roles. They dominate the head notes and, like cymbals, announce th e entry of rose and jasmine, which brilliantly sing a melody of sensuality. Like a musical score, the fragrance had to mellow into calm and voluptuous notes. The challenge was met, as vanilla quickly harmonises its carnal accents with those of iris a nd wood notes. Designed by Raymond Guerlain, its iconic “inverted heart” bottle is underscored with graceful scrolls t ypical of Art Nouveau. Its avant-garde stopper, in the form of a hollowed heart, evokes the delicate romanticism of this perfumery m asterpiece and represented a real technical feat at the time.
